About Me

Young Alex Vara Portrait

My name is Alejandro "Alex" Vara. I was born in El Paso, Texas, and raised in the vibrant neighborhood of South-Central Los Angeles. My wife and I have been living in Highland for approximately 25 years, and we have been happily married for 34 years. We have three children, Briana, Julian, and Emma, all of whom I'm very proud of. My educational journey has been a tapestry woven with determination, advocacy, and a passion for learning.

  • Middleton Elementary: From Kindergarten through 5th grade, I attended Middleton Elementary in Huntington Park. These formative years laid the foundation for my love of education.

  • Integration Program: During 6th to 11th grade, I participated in an integration program. This unique experience involved being bused from South Central Los Angeles to Roscomare Road Elementary School in the prestigious neighborhood of Bel Air. The exposure to diverse environments enriched my perspective and fueled my commitment to education.

  • Emerson Jr. High and University High School: In Santa Monica, I continued my educational journey at Emerson Jr. High and University High School. These institutions broadened my horizons and nurtured my academic growth.

  • Fontana High School: In 1988, my family relocated to the Inland Empire, and I graduated from Fontana High School in 1989. Despite early academic struggles, I persevered, driven by an unwavering belief that I could achieve anything with determination.

  • Parental Advocacy: My parents were my unwavering advocates. They instilled in me the conviction that education was my key to success. Their encouragement fueled my resilience.

  • Educator’s Journey: With 30 years of experience in education, I serve as a Middle School Principal and a School Board Member in 2024-2025. My mission is to provide students with opportunities I never had, empowering them to reach their full potential.

  • Making a Difference: Every day, I find joy in improving the lives of our students, teachers, and parents. Education is not just my profession; it’s my passion
